I created this portrait of Angela Davis during my MFA in graphic design for my editorial illustration class. The class was all assigned people from Time Magazine’s 100 most influential people of 2020 list. I created the brushes used to make the portrait and decided to mock it up on a wall to reference the grassroots movements of political activism that Angela Davis has spent her whole life being involved in and inspiring.
I created the photoshop brushes I used by splattering paint on a piece of paper and then taking them into photoshop and turning them into various brushes.
I also created my own mockup with a picture of a wall I took in Charlottesville, VA. I placed the portrait over the image and then layered the original image over the portrait again to add in the wall texture.
